History
Truck Namibia (Pty) Ltd was established in 1975 and operates as an independent distributor for Scania products in Namibia.
The company grew from a small one man operation, selling trucks from a home office, to an After Sales driven force as well as being the market leader in Namibia. The first Scania was delivered to Walvisbay during 1975.
Harsh conditions and the wide open spaces in Namibia placed additional requirements on both vehicle and operator. During the political uncertainty before Namibia’s Independence in 1990, Truck Namibia managed to supply both vehicles and parts to customers operating in the whole region.
New vehicles were imported from an assembly plant in Botswana until Scania Sweden started the wholly owned subsidiary in South Africa in 1995. Vehicles from then on were acquired from the South African entity.
During 2001 Scania South Africa introduced and started acting as the Southern African Hub, incorporating the independent distributors in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Later on dealers from Angola, Malawi, Mozambique as well as Scania Tanzania Ltd -as the most recent member- formed part of the Hub operation, later on the Scania South African Business Unit.
It was also during this time that Truck Namibia started importation of good used Scania vehicles from the United Kingdom. This turned out to be the way in strengthening the Scania brand and vehicle population in the country. Along side this line of business, the Scania new vehicle sales has risen to have a 40% market share during 2004 and 2005.
Since 2005 the company is owned and managed by Scania South Africa (Pty) Ltd, a Scania CV Sweden owned subsidiary.
